Let's Talk About Love. Let's Talk About God.

Updated: Nov 15, 2024

Love is the heartbeat of the our faith. At its core, love is not just an emotion but an active expression of God’s character. In 1 John 4:8, we read that "God is love," and this truth transforms the way we walk through life with Jesus. Understanding and embracing God’s love not only renews our spirit but also equips us to love others in a Christlike way. Let’s explore what it means to walk in love, rooted in the unshakable foundation of God’s love.

The love of God is the ultimate standard of love—perfect, unconditional, and eternal. Romans 5:8 reminds us of this truth: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." This sacrificial love is not based on our performance or worthiness but is freely given through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Walking in this love means embracing the truth that nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).

Jesus didn’t just talk about love—He lived it. From healing the sick to forgiving sinners, His life was a constant reflection of God’s heart. In John 13:34-35, Jesus commands us: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples." To walk with Jesus is to mirror His love in our actions, showing kindness, grace, and forgiveness even when it’s difficult.

Love is not passive; it is a verb. Walking in love with Jesus compels us to move beyond words and into action. In James 2:15-16, we are reminded that faith without deeds is incomplete: "If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?" True love means serving others selflessly, just as Jesus served us. This could look like helping a neighbor, encouraging a friend, or forgiving someone who has wronged you.

Finally, walking in love is one of the most powerful ways we witness to others. In a world often marked by division and self-interest, showing Christlike love stands out. As Jesus said in John 15:12: "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." When we live out this command, others see the light of Christ in us, drawing them closer to the One who is the source of all love.

Love,

Kris
