Joy

His joy is your strength.

"Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

Nehemiah 8:10

Devotional

Joy is not happiness — happiness is weather-dependent. Joy is a weapon forged in the presence of God that functions even when circumstances are dark. It doesn't ignore pain; it transcends it. When the enemy wants you depleted, joyless, and going through the motions, choosing joy is an act of spiritual warfare. It declares: God is still good, and I still believe it.

The 'Dopamine Menu' Trend and the Hunger for Real Joy

TikTok's 'dopamine menu' trend — curated lists of activities designed to spark quick pleasure — went viral because millions resonated with it. People are intentionally engineering their own joy because it doesn't come naturally anymore. The hunger is real. But dopamine fades. What the world calls a 'dopamine hit,' God calls a shadow of the real thing. Nehemiah 8:10 calls joy a source of strength — not a reward for good days.

Discussion Question

"What does the viral obsession with 'dopamine menus,' mood boards, and joy rituals reveal about the human spirit's deep need for something lasting?"

Bible Study Application

Study the life of Paul in Philippians — he wrote the most joy-filled letter in the New Testament from prison. Map the word 'joy' through the four chapters. What is the source of his joy? What would it take to have that kind of joy regardless of circumstances?
