"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Devotional
God did not separate the spiritual from the physical — He put them together on purpose. The body you live in is not a shell to be ignored until heaven; it is a temple you are called to steward now. Exercise, rest, nutrition, and self-care are not vanity — they are acts of faithful stewardship. When you strengthen your body, you are honoring the One who created it. Your physical health and your spiritual health are more connected than you think.
Culture Meets Scripture
In the News
The fitness and wellness industry is worth over $5 trillion globally. Gym memberships, running clubs, cold plunges, protein supplements, wearable trackers — an entire generation is optimizing their bodies. And yet, research shows that despite peak physical activity culture, rates of depression, burnout, and emptiness are rising in tandem. The body is being treated like a project while the spirit is being starved. Scripture holds these together: 'physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things' (1 Timothy 4:8). Both matter. Neither alone is enough.
Discussion Question
"Why does a culture obsessed with physical optimization still feel so exhausted and empty — and what does the biblical vision of the body add to the conversation?"
Bible Study Application
Read Daniel 1:8-20. Daniel made specific choices about what he put in his body — not out of legalism, but as an act of consecration. How did God respond? What does this passage reveal about the connection between physical discipline and spiritual clarity? What is one area of physical stewardship God is inviting you into right now?
